PAGB faced growing operational risks from ageing on-premises infrastructure built on costly VMware systems. The environment lacked redundancy, was difficult to maintain, and posed security and compliance concerns. Key services included Amazon EC2 and RDS for compute and database, S3 for document storage, and AWS Systems Manager to reduce operational overhead. Email, static file hosting, and backup functions were modernised with cloud-native services, while access from the head office was secured using bastion hosts and IP-based restrictions.
